Ghanaian law enforcement agencies and the judiciary have taken decisive action in several high-profile criminal cases involving murder and sexual assault across the country. In the Upper East Region, the Regional Police Command has arrested two security guards stationed at Bolgatanga Girls’ Senior High School for the alleged defilement of a 14-year-old student. The suspects, identified as 38-year-old Elvis Adongo and 72-year-old Adams Nyaaba Iddrisu, were apprehended after the victim reported being assaulted. The incident reportedly occurred when the student entered the school's security room to charge her electronic tablet; Iddrisu is alleged to have forced himself on her, while Adongo subsequently admitted to having an ongoing sexual relationship with the minor. Both men remain in custody and are expected to face court proceedings shortly.
In a separate and violent incident in the Western Region, residents of Achiase, near Aboso in the Prestea Huni Valley Municipality, were left in shock following the death of Augustine Boah. The victim was allegedly stabbed to death by 24-year-old Kofi Yena, popularly known as 'Pogba,' during a confrontation on August 20, 2026. The fatal dispute is believed to have been sparked by a disagreement over land, during which Yena reportedly attacked Boah with a pair of scissors. The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the deceased has been deposited at the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the Ashaiman District Court has remanded 43-year-old WOII Dzisenu, a soldier, in connection with the death of 45-year-old Abdul Shaban. The incident occurred at Mawugbezibe, near Afienya, in the Greater Accra Region. Dzisenu faces a murder charge under Section 46 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960. During his recent court appearance, the soldier did not enter a plea and was remanded to allow for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding Shaban's death.
These cases highlight a significant week for the Ghana Police Service and the judicial system as they grapple with diverse crimes ranging from land-guard violence to the breach of trust by school security personnel. As President John Mahama’s administration continues to emphasize the rule of law, these swift arrests and court remands serve as a signal of the state's commitment to ensuring justice for victims. Public interest remains high as the legal processes for all suspects move forward in their respective jurisdictions.
