The Ghana Police Service has apprehended 64 individuals during a high-stakes tactical operation at Achimota Mile 7 in Accra, aimed at dismantling a suspected criminal network and illegal firearms trade. The raid, which took place on September 25, 2026, was spearheaded by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police (SOA) in collaboration with the National SWAT team. The intervention was directly triggered by mounting complaints from local residents regarding suspicious and criminal activities centered around a popular lounge in the neighborhood.
During the swoop, law enforcement officers identified several key suspects and seized incriminating evidence. A blue unregistered Honda Acura was intercepted, containing a pistol holster and leading to the arrest of Theophilus Ashon. In an attempt to evade law enforcement, Ashon falsely identified himself as a police officer. Subsequent investigations and follow-up actions led the police to the residence of Michael Emmanuel Kingsley Mills, where a cache of multiple firearms and a significant quantity of ammunition were recovered. Both individuals are considered central to the ongoing investigation into the illegal possession and trade of weaponry.
All 64 suspects are currently being held in police custody as authorities conduct further interrogations to determine the extent of their involvement in the alleged criminal activities. The Ghana Police Service has indicated that the suspects will be processed for court in the coming days. This operation highlights the increasing reliance on community-led intelligence to curb urban crime and underscores the commitment of the National SWAT team to maintaining public safety in the Greater Accra Region. Residents have been encouraged to continue reporting suspicious behavior to the authorities to ensure the long-term security of the Achimota area.
