The Ministry of Health is actively engaging the Ministry of Finance to secure the necessary funding to complete several abandoned health infrastructure projects across the country. During a Public Accounts Committee hearing on October 8, 2026, Deputy Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah announced that the ministry is prioritizing the resumption of these stalled initiatives to address the nation's healthcare infrastructure deficit. Among the most critical of these is the Abetifi Government Hospital, which has faced significant delays.
Prof. Dr. Ayensu-Danquah emphasized that the government is committed to finishing existing projects before launching any new health facility initiatives. There are currently seven major health projects that have been identified as stalled due to insufficient funds. The Deputy Minister confirmed that the Ministry of Health is in high-level discussions with Finance officials to obtain the required financial support to get these construction sites back to work. This policy shift focuses on ensuring that previous capital investments are fully realized and put to use for the public benefit.
To expedite these efforts, the government is also considering strategic partnerships with private health sector operators. In addition to securing funds for the seven major stalled projects, the ministry plans to conduct a nationwide assessment of existing healthcare facilities. This evaluation will identify hospitals in need of repair, expansion, or total reconstruction. By combining new funding with private sector collaboration and a clear assessment of current needs, the ministry aims to create a more robust and reliable healthcare network for all Ghanaians.
