The Ministry of Health (MoH) has dismissed reports circulating on social media that newly trained medical doctors and dentists are being abandoned by the state. In a formal statement, the Ministry clarified that it remains actively engaged in recruiting medical professionals, specifically noting that the recruitment process for the 36th batch of medical officers and dentists is currently underway. The Ministry emphasized that these claims of neglect are unfounded and do not reflect the reality of the government's healthcare employment strategy.
According to the Ministry, there are well-established, structured procedures for transitioning graduates into the workforce. This process begins with a mandatory two-year housemanship program, which provides essential clinical experience across various levels of the healthcare system. The MoH highlighted that in 2026 alone, three separate batches of doctors have already been placed to begin this phase of their training. This sequence is designed to ensure that financial clearance is secured in advance, allowing for a smooth transition from training into permanent medical roles.
The Ministry further stated that it continues to work closely with the Medical and Dental Council to oversee these placements and ensure that healthcare delivery is strengthened nationwide. A key focus of the current recruitment drive is to improve medical staffing in underserved and rural areas, ensuring more equitable access to healthcare for all Ghanaians. The MoH urged the public to rely on official communications rather than social media misinformation regarding the employment and placement of medical professionals.
