The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully managed three separate fire outbreaks in the Eastern Region, specifically in the towns of Bunso, Boso, and Nsawam. These incidents, which occurred over a short period, resulted in significant property destruction and left two individuals injured. While the service was able to contain the blazes and prevent further spread, the financial impact on the affected individuals and businesses remains substantial. In Bunso, a fire reportedly caused by an electrical fault broke out at a guest house, where it destroyed a standby generator and various personal belongings. A similar cause was identified in Boso, where a domestic fire started from an electrical socket. In that instance, the fire quickly consumed several household items, and reports from the scene indicated that no property could be salvaged from the affected rooms before the fire was brought under control. The most significant incident occurred near Nsawam, involving a truck that caught fire following a vehicular accident. The GNFS estimated the total value of property destroyed in this specific event at GH₵600,000. However, through the timely intervention of fire officers, property worth approximately GH₵200,000 was salvaged from the wreckage. Two passengers who were onboard the truck at the time of the accident sustained injuries and were provided with assistance. The GNFS has used these occurrences to remind the public of the critical need for fire safety and the regular maintenance of electrical systems. Officers highlighted that faulty wiring and overloaded sockets remain leading causes of domestic and commercial fires. The service urged citizens to consult certified electricians for inspections and to remain vigilant, especially during periods where electrical malfunctions are more likely to lead to devastating outcomes.
