The Ghanaian cedi demonstrated resilience on the foreign exchange market, recording a marginal appreciation against the US dollar as of October 20, 2026. This slight shift saw the average buying rate for the dollar rise by one pesewa from the previous day to reach GH₵11.84, while the average selling rate remained stable at GH₵12.17. The development indicates a period of relative calm in the currency market, providing a degree of predictability for importers and businesses operating within the country.
Market rates showed variations across different trading platforms and institutions. Forex bureaus reported slightly higher rates, with the dollar being bought at GH₵11.95 and sold at GH₵12.25. Meanwhile, the Bank of Ghana maintained its interbank rates at significantly lower levels, quoting GH₵11.60 for buying and GH₵11.61 for selling transactions. This spread between the official interbank rates and the open market bureau rates remains a key consideration for stakeholders navigating the financial landscape.
Beyond the dollar, the cedi’s performance against other major international currencies was also recorded. At various forex bureaus, the British pound was quoted at an average buying rate of GH₵15.44 and a selling rate of GH₵16.34. The Euro followed a similar pattern, with buying and selling rates averaging GH₵13.08 and GH₵13.90, respectively. For digital transactions, service providers have pegged rates for popular subscriptions; Netflix is currently at GH₵12.58 and Apple Music at GH₵12.57 when paid via Visa or Mastercard.
Money transfer services such as LemFi and Taptap Send also provided competitive rates for international remittances, offering alternatives to traditional banking channels. As the administration of President John Mahama continues to manage the nation's economic policies, the stability of the local currency remains a priority for maintaining low inflationary pressures and supporting domestic growth. Market analysts will continue to monitor these trends to assess the long-term impact on Ghana’s broader economic recovery.
