The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have completed their 2026 Land Combat and Firepower exercise at the Battle Training Camp in Bundase, showcasing a high level of preparedness against emerging regional security threats. The exercise brought together various units to demonstrate the military's capability to defend the nation's borders and respond to unconventional warfare. It featured a comprehensive display of modern weaponry and tactical maneuvers designed to test the resilience and coordination of the personnel involved in a high-stakes environment.
During the demonstration, the military showcased a wide array of weapons and tactical operations, including live-fire drills and simulated combat scenarios. A critical component of the exercise was the emergency medical response drill, where personnel practiced evacuations and life-saving procedures for battlefield casualties. Brigadier General Edward Awaribey emphasized that these activities are essential for maintaining the military's operational edge, ensuring that land, sea, and air operations are seamlessly synchronized to provide a unified defense front against evolving threats.
Mr. Peter Lanchene Toobu, a member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, commended the GAF for the exceptional coordination and discipline displayed during the drills. He noted that the level of professionalism exhibited provides assurance to the nation regarding its security infrastructure. The MP highlighted that such exercises are vital for identifying areas of strength and potential improvement in the armed forces' response strategies, particularly as security dynamics in the sub-region continue to change.
The 2026 exercise comes at a time when the West African region faces increased threats from terrorism and cross-border crimes. By fostering cooperation among diverse military units and improving strategic capabilities, the GAF aims to deter external aggression and protect Ghana’s territorial integrity. Military leadership indicated that the insights gained from this exercise at Bundase will be used to enhance ongoing efforts to secure the nation and maintain peace within its borders.
