GCB Bank Plc has launched the inaugural Opemsuo Royal Golf Invitational, a one-day tournament scheduled to take place on November 28, 2026, at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi. The event is designed to celebrate Asante royal heritage while providing a platform for business leaders, golf enthusiasts, and the bank’s private banking clients to network. More than 100 golfers from various clubs across Ghana are expected to compete in the 18-hole competition.
A distinguishing feature of the tournament is the introduction of the 'Opemsuo Kente Jacket', which will be awarded to the overall winners in both the men’s and ladies’ categories. Inspired by the iconic Green Jacket of the US Masters, the kente-embroidered garment symbolizes prestige and achievement within the context of Ghanaian culture. The tournament's name honors "Opemsuo," the life patron of the Royal Golf Club, adding a layer of traditional significance to the sporting event.
Speaking at the launch, GCB Bank’s Chief Marketing Communications and Customer Relations Officer, Cynthia Ofori Dwomfou, explained that the initiative aims to strengthen the bank's relationship with its customers. The event will also serve as a venue to showcase the bank's products and services to a high-profile audience. Professor Bernard Baiden, the Chief Operating Officer of the Royal Golf Club, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting the tournament's potential to become a staple on the national golfing calendar.
In addition to the on-course action, the invitational will feature a cocktail reception and an awards ceremony to recognize top performers. GCB Bank intends to establish the Opemsuo Royal Golf Invitational as an annual fixture, with plans to expand participation in subsequent years. The bank's commitment to the event reflects its broader strategy of excellence and community engagement through sports and cultural celebration.
