The Ga West Municipal Assembly has officially commenced the construction of a landmark 24-hour economy market and commercial center in Ga Odumase. Valued at over GH¢34 million, the project is designed to modernize the local trading landscape by providing a facility capable of supporting continuous commercial activity. This initiative aligns with the national strategic vision of transitioning toward a 24-hour economy, aimed at boosting productivity and creating sustainable economic opportunities for residents within the municipality.
The planned facility is comprehensive in its scope, featuring 400 individual stalls to accommodate a diverse range of traders. Beyond traditional retail space, the commercial center will include specialized infrastructure such as a dedicated meat shop and cold storage facilities to support the preservation of perishable goods. Recognizing the need for integrated social services, the project also incorporates essential amenities including an on-site clinic and a police post to ensure the health and safety of both traders and patrons throughout the day and night.
During the project's launch, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) underscored the assembly's financial preparedness, assuring stakeholders that sufficient funds have been secured to prevent construction delays. Both the MCE and the Greater Accra Regional Minister emphasized the project's potential to generate immediate local employment, urging the contractor to prioritize hiring from within the Ga Odumase community. They further stressed the importance of maintaining high construction standards and adhering strictly to the delivery timeline to ensure the investment yields its intended benefits for the public.
This development represents a significant advancement in localized infrastructure, addressing the rising demand for modern, secure trading spaces in the Ga West area. By integrating commercial activities with essential public services, the Ga Odumase market is poised to become a vital hub for the regional economy. As construction progresses, the successful implementation of this 24-hour model is expected to serve as a practical example of urban development that supports President John Mahama’s broader economic transformation agenda.
