His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, has accepted an invitation to chair the 30th anniversary celebration and Awards of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA). The announcement was made following a courtesy call on the monarch at the Ga Mantse Palace by a delegation of the GJA leadership, led by President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour. The upcoming event is designed to recognize excellence in the media profession and celebrate the vital contributions journalists make to Ghana’s national development.
During the visit, GJA President Albert Dwumfour highlighted the significant history between the association and the Ga Mantse, particularly praising the King for his mediation efforts during a period of internal crisis. Dwumfour recounted how a leadership transition dispute, exacerbated by a court injunction and the COVID-19 pandemic, had halted GJA elections from 2020 to 2021. He credited the Ga Mantse’s intervention as the decisive factor that allowed the association to resolve its differences and move forward with its electoral processes.
The 30th GJA Awards, scheduled for November 7, 2026, will also feature President John Dramani Mahama as the keynote speaker. President Dwumfour emphasized that the presence of such high-profile figures reflects the importance of the media in national life and the association's desire to strengthen ties with both the government and traditional authorities. The ceremony will serve as a platform to remind journalists of the responsibilities that accompany their influence on national progress.
This partnership with the Ga Mantse Palace underscores the GJA’s strategic objective to build bridges with traditional institutions while promoting professional standards. The 30th-anniversary celebration is expected to be a milestone event, bringing together various stakeholders to reflect on the evolution of Ghanaian journalism and its future role in a thriving democracy.
