The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has issued a formal appeal to the public to help identify the relatives of Solomon Apia, a Ghanaian citizen who died in Nigeria in 2021. Mr. Apia, who had spent a significant portion of his adult life working in the neighbouring West African country, passed away on July 5, 2021. The Ministry’s request comes as part of its consular mandate to ensure that the remains and affairs of deceased citizens abroad are properly handled by their next of kin.
Biographical details provided by the Ministry indicate that Mr. Apia was born in Accra on March 6, 1960. At the time of his death, he was approximately 61 years old and had been employed by a construction firm in Nigeria for over 15 years. While his professional life was well-documented, his immediate family connections in Ghana have been difficult to establish in the years following his passing.
Evidence found among Mr. Apia’s personal documents suggests he was married and maintained links to several individuals who may be able to identify his family. The documents specifically list the names Steven Yeboah, Wisdom Nanor, Nana, and Eva. The Ministry believes these individuals, or others who know them, could provide the vital link needed to notify his legal next of kin and conclude the necessary administrative and traditional protocols.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on any person with information concerning Solomon Apia or the individuals mentioned in his documents to contact its offices. This public outreach is a standard procedure intended to ensure that deceased Ghanaians are afforded the appropriate final rites and that their families are informed of their passing, regardless of the time that has elapsed since the event.
