FIFA has officially approved the construction of two world-class AstroTurf pitches at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. The decision marks a significant boost for Ghanaian football infrastructure and follows a strategic engagement between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the world football governing body. This project aims to modernise the national training facility and provide high-quality playing surfaces for various national teams and developmental programmes.
The commitment was solidified during a meeting between GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku and the FIFA Development Committee in Rabat, Morocco. During the discussions, the FIFA committee agreed to fund the installation of the top-tier artificial surfaces as part of its ongoing support for member associations through developmental grants. The Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence serves as the primary hub for the GFA's technical and training activities, making the addition of high-standard pitches a priority for the current football administration.
This initiative is part of a broader vision to transform the Prampram facility into a premier centre for football development in West Africa. By upgrading the infrastructure, the GFA intends to enhance the training environment for the Black Stars, the age-grade national teams, and the various women’s national squads. The introduction of modern AstroTurf technology is expected to mitigate issues related to pitch maintenance and weather disruptions, ensuring year-round access for technical training, coaching courses, and scouting exercises.
With the approval secured, the project is expected to move into the implementation phase under the supervision of the FIFA Development Committee. This development aligns with the GFA's current focus on improving technical fundamentals by providing the necessary tools and facilities for talent identification. The addition of these pitches is anticipated to set a new standard for training facilities across the country, providing a blueprint for further investments into local football infrastructure.
