Family Health University (FHU) has officially inaugurated a new seven-member Board of Trustees to oversee its Endowment Fund, a move aimed at securing the academic future of healthcare students. The board, chaired by Dr. Nicholas Smart-Yeboah, was sworn in to manage and grow the fund, which provides sustainable financial assistance to academically gifted Ghanaian students who face financial challenges. Vice-Chancellor Professor Enyonam Yao Kwawukume led the ceremony, highlighting the institution's commitment to ensuring that no student is forced to abandon their medical education due to a lack of resources.
The newly appointed board includes notable members such as Dr. Koku Awoonor-Williams and Reeta Auguste, who will work alongside Dr. Smart-Yeboah to steer the fund’s strategic direction. Professor Kwawukume charged the trustees with the responsibility of resource mobilization and emphasized the need for absolute transparency in the administration of the fund. He noted that the board's primary focus must remain on identifying and supporting the most deserving candidates to maintain the integrity of the university’s scholarship programs.
This inauguration marks a new chapter for the Endowment Fund, which was originally launched on March 23, 2023. The new trustees are expected to build on the foundations laid by their predecessors, expanding the fund's reach to cover more students in need across various healthcare disciplines. By fostering partnerships and encouraging donations, the board aims to create a permanent financial safety net that will contribute to the development of Ghana’s healthcare workforce by supporting the next generation of doctors and nurses.
