Funeral Arrangements Announced for Mrs. Evelyn Naa-Otua Addo and Madam Comfort Naana Owusu

Kofi Sarfo Assiamah Funeral and New Chieftaincy Installations Signal Key Regional Transitions

Across Ghana, traditional authorities and families are navigating significant periods of transition, marked by the passing of respected elders and the resolution of long-standing leadership disputes. In the Central Region, preparations are underway for the final funeral rites of Kofi Sarfo Assiamah, father of former Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah. Mr. Assiamah, who passed away in late 2025, will be honored during a three-day observance in Denkyira Dominase from October 30 to November 1, 2026. The event is expected to draw high-profile figures, including former Presidents John Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as well as members of the Masonic fraternity and former government officials. Mr. Assiamah’s legacy is defined by a multi-faceted career that spanned education, military service with the Ghana Armed Forces, and high-level banking as a director at the Social Security Bank (now Societe Generale Ghana). His funeral program includes a main observance on October 30, followed by a private burial on October 31, and a concluding Thanksgiving Service on November 1. This period of mourning in Denkyira coincides with a more somber transition in the Upper West Region, where the Palace of Nandom Naa recently announced the death of David Chemogoh Aasonaa Delle. The 81-year-old Regent of the Nandom Traditional Council passed away at the Tamale Teaching Hospital following a short illness. While some communities mourn, others are celebrating the resolution of protracted leadership conflicts. In the Greater Accra Region, Nene Nakom Namli V was successfully installed as the new Sege Mantse on August 30, 2026. His installation marks the end of a 20-year chieftaincy dispute dating back to 2005. The conflict was recently settled by the National House of Chiefs, which set aside previous judgments and restored a 2020 ruling from the Ada Traditional Council. In his first public addresses, Nene Nakom Namli V has made a strong call for unity, urging kingmakers and the community to set aside past grievances to focus on collective development. Parallel to the developments in Sege, the Eastern Region has also seen the introduction of new leadership designed to spur economic growth. On October 5, 2026, Rev Richard Tagoe was enstooled as the Amanonehene of Abotakyi Akuapem. In his new role, Rev Tagoe has pledged to leverage his position to attract diaspora investment and create sustainable job opportunities for the local youth. These shifts in traditional leadership—from the burial of veteran figures to the installation of development-oriented chiefs—underscore the evolving role of the chieftaincy institution in modern Ghana as a bridge between historical preservation and future economic progress.
