The Trinity Theological Seminary (TTS) in Legon has announced the appointment of Rev. Dr. Ernestina Afriyie as its first female President. Her tenure is scheduled to begin on December 1, marking a historic shift in the leadership of one of Ghana’s most prominent Protestant theological institutions. This appointment is seen as a significant milestone in the seminary's history, reflecting broader changes in the landscape of religious leadership in the country.
Dr. Afriyie currently serves as the Minister-in-Charge of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) Charis Congregation. Her professional background combines rigorous theological scholarship with extensive experience in pastoral leadership. Throughout her distinguished career, she has been recognized for her service within the Presbyterian Church, where she has demonstrated a capacity for both administrative governance and spiritual oversight. Her selection highlights her personal merits and the increasing recognition of women’s contributions to theological education and church management.
As the new President, Dr. Afriyie will be tasked with providing strategic guidance to the seminary during a period of reflection and growth. Her appointment is particularly timely as the institution and the wider church prepare for the 50th anniversary of women's ordination in 2026. In her new role, she is expected to lead the seminary toward this landmark celebration, fostering an environment that balances traditional theological values with the progressive inclusion of women in ministerial leadership.
