Eric Gyamfi Odoom, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Agona West, has commissioned two modern kindergarten blocks for AME Zion Basic Schools in Agona Swedru and Agona Odom. These facilities are part of a targeted initiative to strengthen early childhood education and improve the foundational learning environment within the municipality. The commissioning ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, including officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES) and leaders from the AME Zion Church.
During the event, Hon. Odoom emphasized that the municipal assembly remains committed to providing quality infrastructure to support the education of young children. He highlighted the critical role of qualified teachers in these early stages of development and urged parents to take an active interest in their children’s schooling. The MCE also announced that the assembly plans to construct additional kindergarten blocks across other communities in the municipality to address existing infrastructure gaps and ensure equitable access to early education.
Representing the AME Zion Church, Rev. Thomas Arko Akwa expressed gratitude for the collaborative effort between the assembly and the church. He pledged the church’s ongoing support for enrollment drives to ensure the new facilities are fully utilized by the local community. The project is seen as a significant step in providing a more conducive learning atmosphere that encourages higher attendance and better educational outcomes for the youngest learners in the district.
However, the headmistress of Agona Swedru AME Zion 'B' Basic School, Madam Isabella Ersie, used the occasion to highlight further infrastructure needs. While expressing her appreciation for the new kindergarten blocks, she appealed for the urgent renovation of the school’s Junior High School (JHS) block. She noted that leaking roofs currently disrupt lessons during the rainy season, posing a challenge to the school's ability to maintain a consistent academic calendar.
