A 19-year-old woman, Emmanuella Asante, has been remanded into police custody following the death of her boyfriend, 33-year-old Enoch Abrokwa. The incident, which has shocked the community at Ofankor Barrier in Accra, occurred after a violent disagreement between the couple on October 9, 2026. The suspect appeared in court following her arrest and will remain in custody while the investigation into the circumstances of the death continues.
According to police reports, the dispute escalated when Asante allegedly used a piece of broken glass to stab Abrokwa in the chest. The Tesano Divisional Police Command, which is leading the investigation, revealed that Asante was arrested on October 10, the day after the confrontation. During initial questioning, she reportedly admitted to the act that led to her partner's fatal injuries, though the case remains under active investigation by the divisional authorities.
Abrokwa was rushed to the Ridge Hospital for emergency medical attention immediately following the incident. Despite undergoing surgery to treat his wounds, he succumbed to his injuries five days later, on October 14, 2026. The shift from an assault investigation to a capital offense followed his passing, leading to the suspect’s formal appearance before the court and subsequent remand to ensure she remains available for trial.
The court has ordered that Asante remain in police custody as forensic evidence and witness statements are processed. She is scheduled to make her next appearance on November 3, 2026. In the wake of this tragedy, the police have issued a public appeal, urging citizens to seek peaceful methods of conflict resolution and to avoid domestic violence, which can lead to irreversible consequences for all involved.
