The Circuit Court in Bekwai has sentenced two young men, 23-year-old Emmanuel Adams and 22-year-old Vincent Aidoo, to 20 years in prison for their roles in a violent motorbike robbery at Edwenase, near Jacobu in the Ashanti Region. The court handed down the verdict after finding both individuals guilty of conspiracy and robbery following an incident that took place on October 4, 2026. The swift judicial outcome followed a police investigation that led to the immediate arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen property.
The court heard that the duo targeted a 16-year-old boy, Bismark Boafo, by tricking him into stopping his motorcycle. Once the victim was vulnerable, Adams and Aidoo used an electric shocker to incapacitate him before fleeing with the vehicle. The prosecution detailed how the convicts planned the attack, highlighting the use of the electronic device to overpower the teenager. Despite their efforts to escape, police officers tracking the case were able to locate the suspects and return the motorcycle to its owner.
In his ruling, the presiding judge sentenced both Adams and Aidoo to 15 years for conspiracy to commit a crime and 20 years for robbery. The court ordered that both sentences run concurrently, resulting in a total custodial sentence of 20 years for each convict. This sentencing serves as a stern warning regarding the increasing use of electronic weapons in local robberies and reflects the court's commitment to protecting residents from violent crime in the Ashanti Region.
