Ecobank Ghana PLC has officially commissioned a refurbished digital learning centre at the 4 Garrison Education Center in Kumasi. The project was inaugurated as part of the annual Ecobank Day celebrations, which this year carried the theme "Building Tomorrow’s Skills Today." The facility is designed to provide students with essential access to modern technology, ensuring they are not left behind in the rapidly evolving global digital landscape.
The newly handed-over centre is equipped with 26 high-capacity computers and modern furniture tailored for a classroom setting. Beyond providing hardware, the initiative aims to foster advanced digital literacy among pupils by offering training in specialised areas such as coding, robotics, web development, animation, and artificial intelligence. By integrating these subjects into the local curriculum, the bank hopes to bridge the existing skills gap and prepare learners for future careers in technology and innovation.
This intervention is part of a wider corporate social responsibility strategy by the pan-African bank. Over the last three years, Ecobank has refurbished 66 IT laboratories across its footprint in Africa, a programme that has reportedly benefited more than 46,000 young people. The commissioning also serves to mark the bank's 40th anniversary of operations on the continent, reinforcing its commitment to youth empowerment and human capital development in the regions where it operates.
Speaking at the event, the Education Director, Lt. Col. Niminga-Baka, highlighted the significance of the project in the context of national development. He noted that early exposure to emerging technologies is crucial for transforming the lives of learners and enhancing their competitiveness. Local education authorities encouraged the school management and students to maintain the facility diligently to ensure its long-term sustainability and impact on the Kumasi educational community.
