The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has successfully replaced 14 faulty transformers across various districts in the Tema Region to bolster the stability of the local power grid. The maintenance exercise, which took place between October 28 and November 1, 2026, was specifically designed to address persistent technical issues and minimize the frequency of supply disruptions for residents and businesses in the area. This initiative forms part of the utility provider's ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade critical infrastructure within its operational zones.
The replacement project spanned six key operational districts within the Tema Region, including Krobo, Ada, Prampram, Afienya, Tema North, and Nungua. By targeting these specific locations, the power distributor aimed to rectify localized faults that had previously compromised the reliability of the electricity network. The exercise reflects the company's broader strategy to modernize infrastructure and ensure that the distribution system can handle current demand loads without frequent equipment failure.
Regional General Manager for the Tema Region, Jonathan K. Adjabeng, emphasized the importance of these upgrades in maintaining a robust network. He noted that while technical faults are a primary driver for equipment replacement, the company also faces significant challenges from illegal connections, which can overload transformers and lead to premature failure. Adjabeng reiterated that the ECG remains committed to providing safe and reliable electricity, urging customers to support these efforts by protecting electrical infrastructure and reporting unauthorized activities that threaten the stability of the grid.
