The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has officially launched the ‘December in GH 2026’ initiative, themed ‘Ghana To The World.’ The program is designed to showcase the nation's rich cultural identity and bolster the tourism sector by attracting visitors from the diaspora and across the globe. During the launch, the Minister emphasized the importance of national unity and collective responsibility in promoting Ghana as a premier destination for festive celebrations.
As part of the 2026 festivities, the Minister announced the introduction of the inaugural African Festival of Arts, Culture and Creativity (A-FESTA). This new addition to the December calendar aims to provide a dedicated platform for local talent and creative expression, further enhancing the country's cultural appeal. Addressing the popular ‘Detty December’ label often used by travelers, Gomashie urged people to focus on the unique experience of Ghanaian hospitality rather than the name, encouraging everyone to immerse themselves in the local culture.
Supporting the initiative, the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto, called on both domestic and international tourists to explore Ghana beyond its major cities. She highlighted the warmth and spirit of the Ghanaian people as a central draw for visitors and stressed the need for inclusive participation to ensure the season is impactful for all stakeholders. The initiative seeks to create a memorable end-of-year experience while providing significant support to the local creative arts industry.
