Professor Clement K. Dzidonu, the President of the Accra Institute of Technology (AIT), has called for a fundamental shift in how education is perceived, urging graduates and professionals to embrace a "Sovereign Lifelong Learner" (Sovereign Triple-L) mindset. Speaking on the rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Professor Dzidonu argued that graduation should be viewed as the commencement of a lifelong journey rather than a final destination. He cautioned that in a world defined by constant technological disruption, relying solely on traditional university qualifications is no longer a sustainable strategy for career longevity. To navigate this evolving landscape, he introduced the SEEK framework—representing Skills, Expertise, Experience, Knowledge, and Know-how—as a blueprint for continuous professional assessment. This approach encourages individuals to take personal responsibility for their growth by viewing technological changes through an Opportunity–Possibility–Difference (OPD) lens. This perspective allows learners to identify how new tools can enhance their performance rather than fearing obsolescence. Professor Dzidonu stressed that while AI presents significant challenges, the future will favor those who can effectively integrate technology with human judgment. He urged professionals to be proactive in renewing their skills, emphasizing that the ability to adapt and learn is now an essential requirement for success. By positioning lifelong learning as a core personal responsibility, he aims to prepare the Ghanaian workforce for a future where adaptability and technological literacy are the most valuable assets. These insights serve as a call to action for all sectors of the economy to prioritize ongoing development as the global market becomes increasingly automated and intelligence-driven.
