DW Akademie has concluded a specialized training programme for representatives from three community radio stations in Ghana, focusing on enhancing their financial and operational sustainability. This initiative, part of the European Union-funded African Media Integrity and Resilience Programme, targeted station managers and leadership to equip them with the necessary skills to navigate a challenging media landscape. The programme underscores the vital role of local broadcasting in providing essential information and a platform for community dialogue across the country.
The participating stations—Radio Peace FM, Radio Afram Plains, and Radio PAD 95.1 FM—participated in sessions covering governance, audience engagement, and revenue generation. The training emphasized that media viability is not solely a management task but a collective responsibility for all staff. By fostering a culture of accountability and professional governance, the stations can better manage their resources and ensure long-term stability.
Beyond operational theory, the participants identified practical, sustainable revenue opportunities tailored to their specific geographical areas. By strengthening their connection with local audiences and improving their service delivery, these stations aim to become more resilient against economic pressures. This training represents a significant step toward ensuring that community voices remain a central part of Ghana’s democratic and social development.
