The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has committed to delivering 444,000 printed driver licenses to motorists across the country by the end of November 2026. This mass distribution effort is designed to clear a significant backlog of applications, some of which have remained outstanding since 2023. DVLA Chief Executive Officer Julius Neequaye Kotey confirmed that the authority has already completed the printing process for the licenses as part of a renewed push to address administrative delays.
The announcement follows growing public frustration and numerous complaints on social media platforms regarding the prolonged waiting periods for official driving documents. Mr. Kotey acknowledged these concerns, stating that the DVLA is focused on ensuring that every eligible applicant who has completed the registration process receives their card within the specified timeframe. This initiative aims to alleviate the burden on motorists who have had to rely on temporary permits or face potential legal issues while driving without a permanent license.
To meet the November deadline, the authority is coordinating logistics to ensure that all printed cards reach their respective owners. Mr. Kotey emphasized that the delivery process will prioritize those who have fully satisfied all registration requirements. By clearing this backlog of over 440,000 licenses, the DVLA intends to restore efficiency to its operations and improve the overall service experience for Ghanaian motorists, marking a critical step in modernizing the nation's driver documentation system.
