The Nkoranza North District Assembly has celebrated its maiden District-Based Teachers Awards ceremony, an initiative established to motivate educators and recognize their vital role in providing quality education within the region. The event, the first of its kind in the district, saw Dongber Yirper Anselm crowned as the Overall Best Teacher for his exceptional commitment to his profession and impact on his students.
As the top prize for his achievement, Mr. Anselm was presented with a motorbike to assist with his transportation and professional duties. Several other teachers who excelled in various categories were also honored during the ceremony, receiving essential household items including television sets and refrigerators. Local officials noted that the awards serve to foster a sense of appreciation and healthy competition among the district's teaching staff, which is critical for maintaining high standards of instruction.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Regional Minister, Francis Owusu Antwi, highlighted the government's recognition of the challenges faced by teachers, particularly regarding accommodation in rural settings. He announced plans to implement a teacher housing scheme across all 11 districts in the region to improve living conditions for educators. This initiative is designed to ensure that teachers can focus on their pedagogical responsibilities without the persistent burden of searching for adequate housing near their stations.
District officials and education directors concluded the event by emphasizing the need for continued collaboration between the Assembly, traditional authorities, and educational stakeholders. The inauguration of this awards scheme is viewed as a significant step toward reducing teacher attrition and boosting morale. By investing in teacher recognition and welfare, the district aims to ensure long-term improvements in academic outcomes for students across Nkoranza North.
