Desmond Selase Aggor, a correspondent for Citi FM and Channel One TV, emerged as the most decorated journalist at the 4th Volta Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards held in 2026. Aggor secured a total of four accolades, including the prestigious GJA/Ras Muta Most Promising Journalist of the Year. The awards ceremony, which celebrates excellence in regional media, highlighted Aggor's versatile reporting across several key developmental sectors in the Volta Region.
Aggor’s recognition spanned categories including Education, Sports, and Business. His award for Best in Education followed his investigative reporting on the educational challenges facing the people of Zanukorfe, while his work on the poor infrastructure affecting local sports development earned him the Best in Sports title. The Most Promising Journalist honor, known as the Ras Muta Award, is particularly significant as it preserves the legacy of the late Ras Muta, a distinguished media figure who contributed immensely to journalism and media training in the region.
The ceremony also recognized Fred Quame Asare of Joy News, who was adjudged the 2026 Best Community Reporter. Asare’s winning entry focused on the severe impact of coastal erosion in the Agavedzi community, a feature that brought national attention to the plight of residents losing their homes to the sea. In his acceptance remarks, Asare expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized his dedication to storytelling that serves the interests of local communities.
Beyond these individual honors, the 4th Volta GJA Awards featured categories for health, agriculture, and tourism, reflecting the broad scope of journalism in the region. The event serves as a critical platform for encouraging impactful reporting on regional issues and honoring the professionals who bring these stories to light. The GJA leadership noted that such recognition is essential for maintaining high standards of journalistic integrity and development-focused communication.
