Head coach Desmond Ofei has named a 32-man squad of locally based players to begin camping at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram as Ghana prepares for the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The team is scheduled to assemble on October 12 to start intensive training ahead of their crucial two-legged encounter against Libya. This preliminary camp focuses on domestic talent as the technical team seeks to build a core group for the upcoming international assignments and assess the fitness levels of the invited players. The Black Meteors will face Libya in a series of matches scheduled to take place between November 9 and November 17. The aggregate winner of this tie will advance to the final qualifying round, where they will face either Equatorial Guinea or Niger. This path is essential for securing one of the few available spots in the U-23 AFCON tournament. Only seven nations will qualify through this process to join the host nation, Egypt, in the final tournament, which serves as the primary gateway for African nations to reach the Olympic Games. This qualifying cycle carries significant historical importance, as Ghana looks to end a 22-year drought from the Olympic football tournament. The Black Meteors last featured at the Olympics during the 2004 Games in Athens, Greece. Success in the qualifiers against Libya and subsequent opponents would bring the team one step closer to returning to the global stage and restoring the nation's prestige in age-grade international football. Coach Ofei and his staff are tasked with revitalizing the national U-23 program to ensure a new generation of talent can compete at the highest level.
