A major fire outbreak has occurred in the Cable and Wireless area of Darkuman, Accra, resulting in the destruction of five vehicles and several business structures. The blaze, which started in a cluster of containers, quickly spread to involve a mechanic shop and welding shops within the vicinity. The incident has caused significant property damage in the densely packed commercial zone as the fire consumed multiple structures.
In response to the emergency, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) dispatched firefighting teams from the Makola and Dansoman fire stations. Upon arrival, the crews worked to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading to adjacent container structures and nearby properties. The strategic deployment of personnel from multiple stations was necessary to manage the intensity of the flames and provide adequate coverage for the area.
Preliminary reports from the GNFS highlight the urgency of the situation as the fire consumed both the physical workshops and the vehicles parked within or near the premises. The destroyed assets include various tools, equipment, and customer vehicles that were at the mechanic and welding shops for repairs. No casualties have been reported at this stage, though the financial loss to the affected shop owners is expected to be substantial.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and the Ghana National Fire Service is expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the origin of the blaze. Residents and business owners in the Darkuman area have been urged to remain cautious, particularly in zones where flammable materials and densely packed metal containers are prevalent. The situation remains under monitoring following the successful containment of the fire by the responding units.
