The Dangote Group has announced its intention to list shares of its multi-billion-dollar Lagos refinery on several stock exchanges across the African continent. This strategic expansion follows the significant success of its Initial Public Offering (IPO) in Nigeria, which was launched in September. The plan is designed to broaden the investor base for the refinery, allowing individuals and institutional investors beyond Nigeria to secure a stake in one of the continent's most critical industrial assets.
The Nigerian leg of the IPO, which raised $1.6 billion, demonstrated robust investor confidence by attracting nearly $5 billion in total orders. This substantial oversubscription indicates a high level of market interest in the refinery, which is the largest project of its kind in Africa. Following this successful capital raise, the shares are slated for an official listing on the Nigerian exchange by the end of October. The group’s decision to pursue additional listings elsewhere in Africa reflects a commitment to regional economic integration and the democratization of investment opportunities in the energy sector.
The Lagos refinery is a cornerstone of West Africa's energy infrastructure, and its presence on other African exchanges is expected to provide a significant boost to regional capital markets. By offering shares in multiple jurisdictions, the Dangote Group aims to enhance the refinery's profile and facilitate broader participation in its long-term growth. This initiative aligns with the group’s wider vision of driving industrialization and economic self-sufficiency across the African continent.
