The Dambai Circuit Court has remanded four individuals into custody following violent disturbances in Dwabrem, Worawora, linked to the Akwantutenten Festival. The accused, identified as Kwame Aboagye Ahenkroa, Prince Asante, Daniel Wiafe, and Kwabena Nsimbo, were charged in connection with unrest that occurred on October 24, 2026. The court has scheduled the group to reappear on November 17, 2026, as legal proceedings continue.
The disturbances were reportedly triggered by escalating tensions surrounding the celebration of the Akwantutenten Festival. According to the Oti Regional Police, the unrest was fueled by a High Court injunction regarding the festival, which led to friction within the Dwabrem community. During the incident, protesters engaged in the burning of vehicle tires and other acts of public disorder, prompting an immediate security intervention to restore peace and protect property.
Following the arrests, the Oti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) convened a meeting with the involved families and local leaders to address the underlying grievances. Authorities have strongly urged all parties to seek resolution through lawful channels rather than resorting to violence. While order has been restored in the area, the police have called for continued calm and respect for the judicial process as the case moves forward.
