The proposed airport project at the Damang Gold Mine in the Western Region is now estimated to cost at least $80 million, following a revision of the project’s scope. Rammy Oboro, the Community Relations Manager for the mine, revealed the updated financial requirements and structural plans for the facility, which aims to transform transportation logistics within the mining enclave. The project is scheduled to be completed in two distinct phases to ensure the infrastructure is developed systematically to meet both immediate operational needs and long-term regional goals. Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen program during a broadcast from Tarkwa-Damang, Oboro highlighted that the revised scope reflects a commitment to delivering a robust facility capable of supporting the mine's extensive requirements. Enhancing air connectivity is seen as a vital step for the Damang Gold Mine, which operates in a sector where the timely movement of personnel and critical equipment is essential. Currently, the mining area relies on road networks that can be subject to delays or logistical challenges. The new airport is expected to bridge this gap, providing a more efficient alternative for domestic travel and specialized logistics. In addition to serving the mine’s direct interests, the project is anticipated to have broader economic implications for the Western Region. By improving infrastructure in the Tarkwa-Damang area, the facility may serve as a catalyst for further development and increased accessibility for the local community and other businesses operating in the vicinity.
