Entertainment Icons Drive Social Impact: Daddy Lumba Honoured Posthumously as RMD and Mandy Kiss Urge Reflection

The West African entertainment landscape has been defined this week by powerful acts of reflection and social responsibility, ranging from poignant posthumous tributes to urgent calls for national transformation. Priscilla Ofori, widow of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, led a touching charity event at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to mark what would have been the musician's 62nd birthday. This gesture, aimed at supporting vulnerable families, coincided with significant public addresses from veteran Nigerian actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) and content creator Mandy Kiss, both of whom urged their audiences to prioritize constructive action and personal growth over criticism and mockery.

In a deeply emotional tribute to Daddy Lumba, who passed away on July 26, 2025, Priscilla Ofori and her associates visited the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to settle the medical bills of new mothers and children undergoing cancer treatment. Each mother receiving support was granted GH₵3,000. The initiative was inspired by the legendary singer's personal history with medical struggles, specifically the loss of his mother to leukaemia, a memory that profoundly affected him. By supporting those in similar circumstances, Ofori aims to ensure that Lumba’s legacy of compassion remains a living force, continuing to impact lives after his passing at the age of 60.

Parallel to these charitable efforts in Ghana, veteran Nollywood filmmaker Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) took a firm stance on civic responsibility during his address at the 2026 Pivot Nigeria Conference in Lagos. Challenging his fellow citizens, RMD urged Nigerians to move beyond the culture of perpetual criticism regarding the nation's challenges. He emphasized that national progress can only be achieved when individuals transition from being spectators of failure to active participants in the search for solutions. His message resonated as a call for collective ownership of the future, urging the public to bring tangible proposals to the table rather than merely highlighting faults.

Meanwhile, Nigerian adult content creator Mandy Kiss has sparked a different kind of conversation regarding personal accountability and redemption. In a reflective video shared from her mother's shop in Ijebu, Ogun State, she revealed she is "starting anew" and urged the public to learn from her mistakes instead of mocking her. Emphasizing the importance of personal choice and authentic living, she encouraged her followers to use her experiences as a cautionary tale. Her transition from the digital space to a traditional retail environment highlights a narrative of resilience and the courage required to pivot one's life direction in the public eye.

Collectively, these stories highlight a shifting paradigm in how entertainment figures across the sub-region engage with their communities. Whether through the direct financial support of healthcare, the promotion of proactive civic engagement, or the candid sharing of personal struggles, these individuals are leveraging their platforms to foster a more supportive and solution-oriented society. These developments suggest that the influence of the arts and social media continues to expand beyond mere entertainment, serving as a vital catalyst for social reform and community healing.
