Ghanaian musician D Cryme has called on stakeholders in the entertainment industry to establish a grand monument or museum in honor of legendary broadcaster Dr Duncan. Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with Kwame Dadzie, the artist emphasized that the veteran broadcaster’s contributions to the Ghanaian music scene, particularly through the discovery and promotion of hip-life talent, deserve national recognition while he is still alive. D Cryme stressed that the industry should move away from the habit of only celebrating icons after their passing.
Dr Duncan is widely credited with revolutionary work in the 2000s through his Kasahare Level show on Adom FM. The platform served as a critical launching pad for numerous high-profile artists, including Sarkodie, D Cryme, and many others who defined the rap culture of that era. D Cryme noted that the broadcaster provided a rare and vital space for emerging talent to showcase their skills at a time when mainstream recognition was difficult to attain for underground rappers. He argued that the impact of this platform remains a cornerstone of modern Ghanaian music history.
During the interview, D Cryme suggested that a statue or a dedicated museum would be an appropriate way to preserve Dr Duncan’s legacy for future generations. Beyond physical monuments, the musician expressed a personal interest in collaborating with industry peers to create a podcast studio or a specific podcast series dedicated to documenting the broadcaster’s story. He urged fellow artists who benefited from the Kasahare Level platform to be vocal about the support they received, framing it as a collective responsibility to honor their mentors.
The call for a monument comes amid broader discussions regarding how Ghana preserves its contemporary cultural history and honors those who have shaped the creative arts. By advocating for a collective effort to celebrate Dr Duncan now, D Cryme hopes to set a precedent for recognizing influential figures during their lifetime. The realization of such a project will likely depend on the mobilization of other artists and industry stakeholders who were influenced by Dr Duncan’s pioneering work in radio and talent discovery.
