CUTS International Accra has criticized state agencies for allowing a Nigerian-registered transit truck to remain parked on the Achimota stretch of the Accra–Nsawam road for more than a month. The policy organization expressed concern that the vehicle’s presence is causing significant traffic congestion and poses a severe safety risk to the public.
The truck is reportedly parked less than 100 meters from a traffic management point where police officers are routinely stationed. Appiah Kusi Adomako, the Director of CUTS International Accra, questioned how such an obstruction could persist in plain view of law enforcement for weeks. The organization highlighted that the prolonged inaction by state agencies represents a lapse in both road safety enforcement and national security oversight.
Drawing parallels to previous tragedies, CUTS referenced the Appiatse explosion to underscore the potential danger of an uninspected, loaded vehicle parked in a high-traffic urban area. The organization is calling for an immediate risk assessment and a thorough inspection of the truck’s cargo to prevent any potential disaster.
CUTS International is urging the Ghana Police Service, National Security, and the relevant municipal assemblies to coordinate the safe removal of the vehicle. They stressed the need for greater accountability among state institutions to ensure that transportation regulations are strictly enforced, protecting road users from the consequences of institutional negligence.
