The 37th edition of the MOLE Conference has officially opened in Ada, bringing together key stakeholders to focus on accelerating climate-resilient Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) service delivery. Organized by the Coalition of NGOs in Water and Sanitation (CONIWAS), the annual gathering serves as a critical platform for addressing the growing challenges posed by the climate crisis on water and sanitation infrastructure. The primary focus is on ensuring that Ghana’s most vulnerable and underserved communities gain access to reliable and sustainable services despite environmental shifts.
Throughout the six-day event, participants will engage in high-level discussions centered on converting long-standing promises into tangible, actionable solutions. The conference agenda prioritizes the mobilization of political will and the implementation of robust climate defense strategies to protect essential infrastructure. Stakeholders are exploring smart financing models and the integration of local innovations to ensure that WASH systems can withstand the unpredictable impacts of climate change, such as droughts and flooding, which frequently compromise water quality and sanitation access in rural areas.
The conference underscores the urgent need for a shift toward sustainable infrastructure that prioritizes the needs of the poor and marginalized. By fostering collaboration between government agencies, development partners, and civil society organizations, CONIWAS aims to bridge the gap in service delivery across the country. As the event progresses, the focus remains on ensuring that climate resilience becomes a standard feature of national WASH policies, ultimately securing long-term health and environmental benefits for all citizens.
