In a surprising turn of events for the Ghanaian media landscape, the outspoken and controversial media personality Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has announced his resignation from Onua TV. The announcement was made live on air during the Friday, August 7, 2026, edition of his flagship morning show, "Onua Maakye." This unexpected departure marks the conclusion of his tenure with Media General, the parent company of Onua TV and TV3, where he has been a dominant force in morning radio and television broadcasting.
Throughout his time at Media General, Captain Smart established himself as a fierce critic of social injustice and political corruption, often using his platform to hold leadership accountable. His high-energy presentation style and willingness to tackle sensitive national issues head-on made "Onua Maakye" a staple for many viewers across the country. During the live broadcast, Smart took a moment to inform his audience of his decision to move on, though the specific motivations behind the resignation and his future professional destination remain subjects of intense speculation among media observers.
The resignation of such a high-profile figure creates a significant vacuum in Media General’s programming schedule, particularly given Smart's massive following and influence. As the media house navigates this transition, the industry will be watching closely to see who will step into the pivotal morning show role. For Captain Smart, this exit represents the latest chapter in a storied career that has seen him move through several of Ghana’s largest media conglomerates, and his next move is expected to have a substantial impact on the nation's competitive media market.
