CalBank PLC has sponsored the 2026 ONE Pink Cup Golf Tournament at the Achimota Golf Club in Accra to support the fight against breast cancer. Held on October 17, 2026, the event aimed to raise critical funds for the Breast Cancer Unit at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. This sponsorship underscores the bank’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, focusing on enhancing public awareness and improving access to medical care for patients facing financial barriers.
The tournament featured an 18-hole competition where participants and attendees wore pink to demonstrate solidarity with breast cancer survivors and those currently battling the disease. During the event, Dr. Amos William Abaidoo addressed the gathering, highlighting the significant emotional and financial burdens placed on families by breast cancer. He emphasized that early detection remains the most effective tool in reducing mortality rates, but noted that many patients struggle to afford the necessary treatment even after a diagnosis is made.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, reflecting the national importance of the initiative. The proceeds generated from the tournament are specifically earmarked to assist patients who cannot afford the high costs associated with breast cancer care at Korle Bu. By bridging the funding gap, CalBank and the Achimota Golf Club aim to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent vulnerable individuals from receiving life-saving medical intervention.
