Presidential Advisor on National Resilience and Emergency Preparedness, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has called on South Korean investors to establish manufacturing bases in Ghana to take advantage of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Speaking at the Ghana-Korea Business Forum 2026, Genfi urged Korean businesses to move beyond treating Ghana as a consumer market and instead view it as a strategic production hub. He emphasized that the government is seeking partnerships that move away from the mere importation of foreign goods toward localized industrial activity.
The advisor highlighted several priority sectors for collaboration, including advanced manufacturing, agribusiness, and digital technologies. According to Genfi, these investments should be structured to promote technology transfer and the enhancement of technical skills within the Ghanaian workforce. By fostering these partnerships, the government aims to strengthen local industries and create sustainable jobs for the youth, ensuring that foreign capital contributes directly to the country's long-term economic stability and industrial growth.
Genfi’s remarks underscore Ghana's ambition to leverage its geographic and political position to become a gateway for the wider African market. He noted that the AfCFTA provides a unique opportunity for South Korean firms to manufacture goods locally and export them across the continent with reduced trade barriers. The focus on technology transfer is intended to ensure that Ghanaian companies gain the necessary expertise to compete globally, while Korean firms benefit from Ghana's stable investment climate and access to a massive regional market.
