Fruit processing company Blue Skies has raised an alarm over illegal encroachment along the Pokuase–Nsawam Highway at Dobro in the Eastern Region. The company reports that heavy-duty trucks and container shops have re-emerged within the road buffer zone, posing severe safety risks to the public and threatening the progress of ongoing road construction. The presence of these unauthorized structures has created significant hazards for both motorists and pedestrians navigating the busy transport corridor.
The encroachment is particularly concerning because several container shops and commercial activities are now situated directly underneath high-voltage power lines. This proximity creates a high-risk environment for business operators and their customers. Despite previous demolition exercises intended to clear the buffer zone, new structures have been erected in defiance of road regulations. These activities are reportedly obstructing the work of contractors, who require the buffer zone to be clear to maintain the momentum of the highway expansion project.
The Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly has acknowledged the growing danger and stated its intention to remove the unauthorized businesses once again. Blue Skies, which operates a major processing facility in the vicinity, is seeking more comprehensive intervention from multiple state authorities to ensure a permanent solution. The company emphasizes that the current state of the buffer zone not only compromises public safety but also undermines the long-term operational integrity and security of the highway infrastructure.
