Ghana’s national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, has been drawn into a competitive Group D for the 2026 World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF) World Cup. During the official draw ceremony held in San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico, the Ghanaian side was paired with Angola, Colombia, and Iraq. The tournament, which will feature 24 national teams from across the globe, is scheduled to take place in Mexico from November 13 to 22, 2026. This placement sets up a challenging path for the team as they look to assert their dominance on the world stage following years of continental success. The Black Challenge enters this global showpiece as one of Africa’s strongest contenders, seeking their first-ever World Cup title. The team has enjoyed a period of significant achievement, having won the African Amputee Football Championship in 2021 and successfully retaining the title in 2024. Their dominance was further cemented by clinching the gold medal at the inaugural African Para Games in 2023, showcasing a high level of consistency and technical prowess that they hope will finally translate into a world championship victory. Preparations are already underway to ensure a successful campaign in Mexico. Following the draw, an official unveiling of the preliminary squad is scheduled for September 28 at the ESP Hotel in Accra. This announcement marks the beginning of the team's intensive buildup as they look to navigate a group that includes formidable opponents like Angola. With the eyes of the nation on them, the Black Challenge aims to build on their continental pedigree and bring home the ultimate prize in amputee football, further elevating the profile of para-sports in Ghana.
