Security Forces Recover AK-47 in Binduri Operation; Wanted Suspect 'Culture' Killed

A joint security operation involving the Upper East Regional Police Command and the Ghana Armed Forces has resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle and 28 rounds of live ammunition in the Binduri District. The intelligence-led exercise, aimed at flushing out criminal elements linked to recent firearm-related offenses, led to a fatal confrontation with a primary suspect. This recovery is part of a broader effort by security agencies to curb a series of shooting incidents that have recently plagued the district.

During the operation, 32-year-old Isaka Sabani, popularly known as "Culture," was shot by security forces. He was later pronounced dead after succumbing to injuries sustained during the encounter. Sabani had been on the security agencies' radar for some time and was officially wanted for attempted murder and the unlawful discharge of firearms. Security records at the Bawku Police Station indicate that prior incidents involving the suspect were reported as early as August 28, 2026.

Further investigations have linked Sabani to a violent spree of shootings that occurred across various locations in the Binduri District between August 29 and August 31, 2026. The recovery of the high-caliber weapon and ammunition is seen as a significant breakthrough in de-escalating the recent surge in gun violence within the region. Security forces have since intensified their presence in the area to identify and apprehend other potential accomplices associated with these crimes.

The Upper East Regional Police Command has confirmed that investigations are still ongoing to determine the source of the weapon and any broader criminal networks.
