Veteran gospel musician Bernice Offei will be laid to rest on November 14, 2026, at the Legon Interdenominational Church in Accra. The announcement follows the passing of the 63-year-old singer on September 12, 2026. Known for her soul-stirring lyrics and powerful vocals, Offei was a significant figure in Ghana’s gospel music landscape for decades, leaving behind a legacy of music that bridged spiritual devotion with deep philosophical reflection on the human experience.
The funeral rites are scheduled to begin with a remembrance night on November 11, 2026, at the Legon Interdenominational Church. The burial service on Saturday, November 14, will be followed by a private interment and final rites. The family has also scheduled a thanksgiving service for Sunday, November 15, 2026, at the same location to celebrate her life and ministry. She is survived by her husband, Professor Samuel Kwame Offei, and their two sons.
Throughout her career, Offei released six albums and earned widespread acclaim for her artistic contributions. She reached a career pinnacle at the 2009 Ghana Music Awards, where she won both Best Female Vocal Performance and Songwriter of the Year for her sixth album, "Life." Her hit songs, including "Kaa She Gbeyei" and the poignant "Life Is Short," became staples of Ghanaian gospel. The latter track was famously inspired by her personal reflections on mortality following the loss of a young friend, a theme that defined much of her late-career output.
Offei’s passing has triggered a wave of tributes across the entertainment industry, with many colleagues and fans highlighting her unique ability to craft songs that were both musically sophisticated and spiritually grounding. As the gospel community prepares for her final farewell, her work continues to be celebrated for its lasting impact on the genre in Ghana and beyond.
