Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has officially inaugurated the first Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District, situated in Barekese. This new judicial facility marks a significant milestone for the district, which previously lacked a high-level court within its borders. The inauguration is part of a broader national effort to decentralise the judiciary and bring legal services closer to citizens, ensuring that geography does not become a barrier to seeking justice.
Constructed with funding from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), the new court complex comprises a modern courtroom, administrative offices, and dedicated spaces for judicial staff. During the ceremony, the Chief Justice emphasised that the facility is designed to provide a conducive environment for both legal practitioners and the public. He noted that the presence of the court would alleviate the burden on residents who previously had to travel long distances to access circuit court services in other districts.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie underscored the importance of equal justice, urging the presiding judges and staff to maintain the highest standards of fairness and integrity. He also called on the local assembly and traditional authorities to take full ownership of the facility and ensure its proper maintenance. Contributing to the discourse, the local Member of Parliament and the District Chief Executive encouraged the community, particularly the youth, to respect the rule of law and utilise the court as a venue for the peaceful resolution of disputes.
The Chief of Barekese expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts between the central government, the district assembly, and the traditional council that led to the project's completion. The establishment of the court is expected to enhance security and order within the district by streamlining the prosecution of criminal cases and the adjudication of civil matters. As judicial operations commence, the facility stands as a symbol of the commitment to strengthening the rule of law at the local level.
