Tension has intensified within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency following reports of significant discrepancies in the voters' register. Local party members have raised alarms over the alleged removal of more than 700 names of longstanding members from the electoral roll ahead of the constituency's upcoming internal elections. This development has created a climate of suspicion and anger, with many questioning the integrity of the process intended to select new leaders for the party.
The constituency's women's wing, led by Afia Serwaa, has been particularly vocal about the exclusions. Serwaa reported that many of the affected individuals are veteran party workers, including numerous women who have served the NDC for years. According to these members, the names of genuine grassroots organizers have been replaced by individuals who are not recognized as part of the local party structure. The wing warns that such irregularities undermine the democratic foundation of the party and could alienate the base ahead of national elections.
Despite attempts to resolve the issue internally, frustrated members claim that regional executives have failed to address the grievances. Aspirants and their supporters have expressed fears that the register has been manipulated to favor specific interests. In response, members have threatened to stage demonstrations and disrupt the electoral proceedings if their names are not restored. They are demanding an immediate investigation and a transparent audit of the register to ensure that the constituency elections are conducted on a fair and credible basis.
