Asthma Ghana, a non-governmental organization, has donated 100 aerochambers valued at over GH‵50,000 to the Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH). The donation is specifically targeted at the hospital's Asthma Clinic and emergency units to enhance the management of respiratory conditions. This initiative seeks to improve medication delivery for vulnerable patients, particularly children and the elderly, who often struggle with standard inhaler techniques.
During the presentation, Professor Victor Wutor, the Founder and Executive Director of Asthma Ghana, underscored the critical role of proper inhaler technique in managing asthma effectively. He explained that aerochambers are essential tools that ensure medication reaches the lungs efficiently rather than remaining in the mouth or throat. By providing these devices, the NGO aims to help clinicians achieve better health outcomes for their patients while reducing the immediate financial pressure on families seeking care at the facility.
Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital management, Senam Kove expressed gratitude for the gesture, noting that the donation would significantly support patients who might otherwise find the cost of specialized medical equipment prohibitive. The hospital's Asthma Clinic serves individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, and having these aerochambers available in both clinical and emergency settings is expected to streamline respiratory interventions and improve patient recovery rates.
Beyond the immediate donation, Prof. Wutor used the occasion to advocate for broader systemic support for respiratory health in Ghana. He called upon corporate organizations and policymakers to prioritize access to respiratory healthcare and essential medical devices. This contribution by Asthma Ghana highlights the ongoing need for public-private partnerships to strengthen the country's healthcare infrastructure and ensure that life-saving tools are accessible to those in need regardless of their financial status.
