The chiefs and people of Assin Kumasi in the Gomoa West District have marked the 2026 Ahobaakese Festival with a vibrant celebration centered on the theme "Development through Unity." The festival, which culminated in a grand durbar on September 13, served as a platform to foster community cohesion and raise essential funds for local development initiatives. The event brought together various dignitaries, traditional leaders, and residents to honor their cultural heritage while addressing the socio-economic needs of the township.
Led by Nana Odziasempa Yaw Tawiah Amponsah III, the Odikro of Assin Kumasi, the festivities featured a series of communal activities designed to promote unity and civic responsibility. The program included a comprehensive clean-up exercise to improve local sanitation, followed by traditional drumming sessions, cultural displays, and family gatherings. A colorful parade through the principal streets of the town showcased the community's rich traditions and set the stage for the formal discussions regarding the area's developmental roadmap.
Addressing the gathering during the durbar, Nana Odziasempa Yaw Tawiah Amponsah III expressed his gratitude for the infrastructure support provided by the government and local authorities. However, he emphasized that significant gaps remain in essential services that require immediate attention. Specifically, the chief highlighted the urgent necessity for a local Junior High School (JHS) to ensure students have accessible education within their community. Furthermore, he appealed for the construction of dedicated quarters for healthcare staff, noting that the current lack of accommodation for nurses hampers the effective delivery of medical services.
In addition to the call for public infrastructure, the traditional leadership invited private investors to explore opportunities within Assin Kumasi, particularly in the agricultural and industrial sectors. Nana Amponsah III extended his thanks to the Gomoa West District Assembly and the local Member of Parliament for their ongoing support, while reiterating that sustainable growth will depend on a collaborative effort between the state, private entities, and the community. The 2026 festival concluded with a renewed commitment from the people of Assin Kumasi to pursue self-help projects and maintain the unity necessary for regional progress.
