Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for peace and unity in the Ahafo Ano South-West District following the passing of District Chief Executive (DCE) Abubakar Sedik. Speaking at the funeral held in Mankranso, Nketiah emphasized the importance of maintaining stability to honor the legacy of the late official, who died on September 20, 2026. He urged party members to refrain from internal disputes that could disrupt the district’s progress during this period of mourning.
The National Chairman warned that succession struggles would only serve as a distraction from the developmental goals Sedik championed. To ensure a seamless leadership transition, Nketiah assured the community that the party leadership is coordinating closely with President John Mahama. He noted that the selection of a successor would be handled through appropriate consultations to ensure that ongoing projects in the district remain on track and that the eventual appointment reflects the needs of the local constituents.
In addition to the political transition, the party has moved to provide long-term support for the family of the deceased official. Nketiah announced the establishment of a GH‵1.5 million fund dedicated to the education and welfare of Abubakar Sedik’s children. This contribution is intended to recognize Sedik’s years of dedicated service to the district and the NDC, ensuring that his dependents are cared for despite his sudden departure.
The late DCE was recognized by leadership for his commitment to public service and his efforts in driving infrastructure and social programs within the Ahafo Ano South-West District. By prioritizing a calm transition and providing financial security for the bereaved family, the NDC leadership aims to preserve party cohesion in the region. The party remains focused on fulfilling its local mandates while honoring the contributions of its late members.
