The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, are set to lead the 30th anniversary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards on November 7. The event, which will be held at the Accra International Conference Centre, marks a historic first for the association as it brings together two of the nation's most prominent traditional rulers to celebrate three decades of journalistic excellence. The Asantehene will serve as the official Patron of the event, while the Ga Mantse will preside over the ceremony as its Chairman.
GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, who led a delegation to formally invite the Ga Mantse, emphasized the King's consistent support for the media fraternity. Dwumfour specifically acknowledged the Ga Mantse's past role in mediating internal election disputes within the GJA, which helped restore stability to the organization. The association has described the upcoming joint participation of the two traditional leaders as "royalty meets royalty," highlighting the prestige and significance of this year's milestone anniversary.
President John Dramani Mahama will attend the ceremony as the Special Guest of Honour, joining the traditional rulers and members of the diplomatic corps. The 30th GJA Awards ceremony is intended to honour the contributions of media professionals to Ghana's democratic growth and social development. By involving both the Asantehene and the Ga Mantse, the GJA leadership aims to demonstrate a unified national commitment to the importance of the press in the country's governance.
