Asante Kotoko has imposed an internal fine on assistant coach Diogo Peral following a physical altercation with Medeama SC defender Ebenezer Adade during a recent Ghana Premier League fixture. The incident occurred during a 1-1 draw at the Baba Yara Stadium, where the Portuguese coach was issued a straight red card for slapping the player. This disciplinary action by the club coincides with formal charges brought against Peral by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee.
The confrontation began when Adade attempted to retrieve the ball near the Kotoko technical area to facilitate a quick throw-in. Reports indicate that Peral attempted to delay the restart, which led to a push from Adade; Peral then retaliated by physically assaulting the defender. In a statement following the fine, Asante Kotoko management emphasized that Peral’s conduct was inconsistent with the club's core values, stressing that high standards of professionalism must be maintained even in emotionally charged environments.
The GFA has officially charged Peral under Article 12(1)(h) of its Disciplinary Code, specifically for the assault on Ebenezer Adade. The assistant coach has been given until November 4, 2026, to respond to the charges. Peral has since acknowledged the lapse in judgment, admitting that he could have handled the touchline situation with greater restraint and professionalism.
This disciplinary matter comes at a period of inconsistent form for the Porcupine Warriors, who are currently winless in their last two matches. The team sits ninth in the Ghana Premier League standings with 13 points. As the club prepares for its next match against Berekum Chelsea, management has urged supporters to refocus on the season's objectives while the club addresses the fallout from the touchline clash.
