The Asankragwa Divisional Police Command has dismissed 10 reported cases of suspected missing manhood after medical examinations proved the allegations were entirely unfounded. Chief Superintendent Vitus Napen, the Divisional Police Commander, confirmed during a press briefing on October 26, 2026, that all complainants involved in the reports had their genitalia intact and functioning normally. The police attribute the surge in these reports to a combination of public panic and the rapid spread of misinformation within the community.
The wave of reports began on October 17, 2026, with an initial complaint originating from Wassa Dunkwa. Since then, similar allegations surfaced in several surrounding communities, including Asankragwa, Aboi Nkwanta, and Breman. According to Chief Superintendent Napen, these reports typically followed physical contact between individuals, which then triggered immediate claims that genitalia had disappeared or shrunk. However, clinical assessments consistently refuted these claims, revealing that the reports were fueled by psychological alarm rather than physical reality.
The police also expressed grave concern over the public's reaction to these unfounded claims, which resulted in a violent confrontation. In one instance, a mob attacked a police patrol vehicle while officers were attempting to rescue a suspect from being lynched by an angry crowd. The vehicle was vandalized during the incident. Chief Superintendent Napen condemned this act of vigilantism and confirmed that investigations are currently underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the damage to the police property. No arrests have been made yet regarding the vandalism.
Warning against the continued spread of such false alarms, the Divisional Command cautioned that individuals found making deceptive reports or inciting public disorder could face prosecution. The police urged residents to remain calm and report any suspicious activities through proper legal channels rather than resorting to mob justice. The command emphasized that such misinformation not only endangers innocent lives but also distracts law enforcement from addressing genuine security threats in the region.
